Faupel, W. John, A Brief and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia: A Study of the De Bry Engravings. East Grinstead: Antique Atlas Publications, 1989. ISBN 8512-250-1. 30x21cm., [10], 87pp., illustrated, paper, edition limited to 500 signed and numbered copies. (31a High St., East Grinstead, West Sussex, England, $45.00)

An often underutilized font of knowledge is the map dealer, and it is gratifying to see more and more books by dealers becoming available.  This book covers the confusing engravings in the various editions of Part I of Theodore de Bry’s Major Voyages.  Mr. Faupel has combined information from various editions in major U.K. libraries to put together this useful bibliography of the engravings.  There is a general introduction, followed by detailed descriptions of each of the engravings, including the title pages, White's Virginia map, the scenes of Indian life, and the 5 Pict engravings.  Each engraving is illustrated.
