Akerman, J.R. & D. Buisseret, Monarchs, Ministers & Maps: A Cartographic Exhibit at the Newberry Library. Chicago: The Newberry Library, 1985. ISBN 0-911028-32-3. 18x23cm., xii, 49-pp., illustrated, paper. (60 W. Walton St., Chicago, IL 60610, $5.00)

The unifying theme of this exhibit catalog is the governmental use of maps. Fifty maps are described, but unfortunately only 10 are illustrated.  The maps are grouped by region; Italy, Spain, France, England, Austria, Poland-Lithuania, and the United States.  In the latter category we find 10 maps, including the Mitchell map, the Lewis & Clark map, a Mason & Dixon map, and the Seven Ranges of Townships map.  The catalog provides a good overview of the political impact of maps, and is certainly worth the price.
