The Mercator Society, English Mapping of America 1675-1715. New York: New York Public Library, 1986. (no ISBN). 24xl7cm., approx. 60pp., illustrated, paper. ($15.00)

Approximately 22 maps are illustrated, each accompanying a brief essay by various authors.  The maps range from the legally unobtainable to ones that collectors may find, such as maps of North America by Wells and Blome.  I would have preferred a different design.  Each verso is blank, with illustration and description squeezed onto a single page.  It would have been much better if the illustrations were put on the versos, and made much larger.  A certain someone reading the book noted-that a photostat air expressed as the result of an urgent request was used without acknowledgement (see p.6 of the 1983 Price Record).  Such matters aside, the book is a fine survey of mapping during this era of increasing English interest in America.
